Wisconsin Rapids has a population of 18,367 and has a total area of 14.67 miles.  Prior to 1900, Wisconsin Rapids was known as Centralia on the West side of the Wisconsin River and Grand Rapids on the East side of the River.  The two cities merged in 1900 and was renamed Wisconsin Rapids in 1920 to avoid confusion with the much larger city of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Wisconsin Rapids is home to cranberries and coated paper.  Ocean Spray and Urban Processing are the two largest cranberry businesses and Consolidated Paper, which was later purchased by Stora Enso, was the creator of the coated paper. 

The beautiful Wisconsin River runs through the community of Wisconsin Rapids and there are many festivities that are celebrated along the river.  The City is well known for having the best fireworks in the area.  The Fourth of July celebration is an all day event where families can enjoy the festivities along the river and then watch the fireworks in the evening.  The "Grand Affair" in September features the downtown area and the activities available to its visitors and residents. Be sure not to miss the "Grand Old Christmas" which is celebrated the day after Thanksgiving.  Enjoy all the festivities that the Rapids community has to offer.

The City features nationally and globally recognized employers such as Ocean Spray, New Page, Renaissance Learning, and Advanced Fiberglass Technologies.  Wisconsin Rapids is known for its quality educational system and modern buildings which includes Mid-State Technical College and the Wisconsin Rapids Public School System (WRPS).  The WRPS system consists of 16 public and parochial elementary schools, two junior high schools and two high schools - Lincoln Public and Assumption parochial.

"I have lived at the Countryside Apartments on the northeast side of Wisconsin Rapids since June of 2011. My upper one bedroom apartment has been an excellent fit for me - a single retired person.  Since I travel a lot, it is a great advantage to have a home that I can leave without worrying about shoveling walks, mowing lawns, and other maintenance concerns. The apartments are amazingly quiet and very comfortable.  My one-car garage is a good fit for my car, and it is deep enough that I can store many items there that I do not need to keep inside the apartment.  The S.C. Swiderski staff members have always been friendly and helpful. I consider the no-smoking policy to be very important and I am grateful that this policy is stated in the contract."
