My Summer with S.C. Swiderski

The last three months at S.C. Swiderski have been a lot of fun and a great learning experience. I am a senior majoring in Real Estate Property Management, so I had learned quite a bit about the industry, but I hadn’t had the chance to apply any of my knowledge to real world scenarios until this summer. I spent my first few days getting familiar with the leasing process. It was a lot to take in at first, but over the next few weeks I was able to get out several of our sites and get some hands on experience.

As the Leasing Intern, I received a very well rounded experience that consisted of some onsite work and some office work. Some of things I got to do while onsite were showings, move-ins, move-outs, and a lease signing. Being onsite was my favorite part of the job, and it was great to be able to help tenants with any questions or problems they might have. When I wasn’t onsite I was in the office working on security deposit transmittals, processing applications, making welcome bags, and learning about the company and the industry as a whole.

I learned a lot about the company’s high standards for apartments, and I got the chance to see a few of our buildings in progress. It was so cool to see sites as they were being completed, and it gave me a better understanding of how real estate, architecture, construction, marketing, and leasing all come together to meet the demands and expectations of future tenants.

Overall, my summer internship was an amazing experience. There aren’t many management companies where you can experience everything from the drawing board to moving tenants in to new buildings. I would have to say the best part of the internship was my coworkers. Everyone was more than happy to help me with anything, and there was never a stupid question. The Leasing Department, especially, made my time at S.C. Swiderski a blast. I will miss being part of such a great team, and I wish S.C. Swiderski good luck as they continue to expand across Wisconsin.

August Star Spotlight - Becky Hensel

The Star Spotlight for September is Becky Hensel. Becky is a project coordinator for SCS Construction; she is currently working on Moon Lake Estates and SCS Sturgeon Bay. Becky was nominated by her peers for her abilities, attitude and character.

“Becky has been a vital part in welcoming and training our new staff over the past several months. She is hard working and cares about how individuals are trained so they are all getting the same information. With her positive, fun and driven personality she goes above and beyond,” said one person.

“Becky always goes above and beyond. She reaches out to subcontractors when information or documents are needed, she always makes sure she understands the details behind something before she passes it along or asks for help, and Becky is always so cheerful and a joy to be around....Overall she is a wonderful co-worker!”

“I feel that Becky does her job in an outstanding way. She is on top of things and does everything possible in her means to get results. Becky is one of the employees here at SC Swiderski that plays a very important roll to the Job Superintendent and the Project Manager.“

The Difference SCS Has Had On Me

When my aunt, Tami Gibbs (Accounting), first suggested I consider a summer internship
with SC Swiderski based in Wisconsin Rapids, I was a bit confused. First, to be completely
honest, I had no idea what kind of business SC Swiderski was until Tami directed me to the
website where I started to do some reading about the company. Just from looking at the website I was impressed. Everything I read about the “SCS Difference” and the company's mission, vision and values seemed almost too good to be true. Part of me couldn’t even believe it, but I knew I wanted to be a part of it.

After entering the beautiful building that is the corporate office, finishing up training, and
heading back down to Wisconsin Rapids, I was already starting to realize that it wasn’t too good to be true, and the SC Swiderski team was the real deal. Being able to be on that team and experience how everyone worked together was an incredible feeling. To use a sports analogy, the corporate office, in a way, acts like the coach, and all the sites around the state are the players. Each player, or site, has their own jobs and they all work together toward a common goal under the careful guidance of the head coach (the corporate office). Being a part of a team like this in the workplace, I believe, will greatly benefit me in any future career.
The work that I have had the pleasure to do this summer has helped me to grow in many
ways. Throughout the few short months, I have had countless interactions with people that have really helped me develop my customer service skills. Conversing with current tenants about any questions they might have, or explaining to possible tenants why the SCS Difference is great, are experiences that I feel blessed to have had.

I want to express my gratitude to all my coworkers in leasing, maintenance, construction,
accounting, and marketing that have helped make this summer great. A special thank you to
Matt for training and mentoring me, as well as helping me answer all the tough questions
tenants would ask. Thank you to all the site managers I have had the pleasure of working with
including Mike, Ali, Ginger, Cathy, and Jerry. The biggest thank you goes to Sandra for teaching
me, supporting me, and always pushing me to step out of my comfort zone. I’m grateful for the
experience SC Swiderski has provided me.
